A free TeamRetro alternative for retrospectives

TeamRetro is a full agile meeting platform, and it has no free plan. If your team liked running retros online and needs a place to keep doing it, here is how ProstoRetro compares, and when TeamRetro is still the better choice.

What TeamRetro is and who it suits

TeamRetro is an agile meeting platform built around retrospectives, with a lot more on top. Teams start with a 30-day trial, and the product is made for organizations that run retros across many teams and want to see patterns in them.

It does a lot, and does it thoroughly:

For an agile coach looking after several teams, or a company that wants health and maturity data across teams, TeamRetro is built for exactly that. This page is for a different situation: the trial is ending, the team liked running retros online, and what you need is a simple place to keep holding them.

What happens when the trial ends

As of October 2026, TeamRetro's pricing page and help center say:

If your trial is still running, save what you want to keep now. TeamRetro's plans include reports and exports, so check what you can download while you still have access.

Where ProstoRetro is different

ProstoRetro is far smaller than TeamRetro and covers one meeting, the team retrospective, free and with no monthly cap on retros. What changes for a team coming off a TeamRetro trial:

There are 19 ready templates, including Start Stop Continue, Mad Sad Glad and the Sailboat, and you can build your own with up to five columns. See them all in the retrospective template library.

TeamRetro vs ProstoRetro at a glance

Checked against TeamRetro's own pricing page and help center as of October 2026. The TeamRetro column describes its paid plans, which the trial gives temporary access to.

How to switch from TeamRetro

Your TeamRetro history can't be imported, so plan the move around the end of your trial:

  1. Save what you need while you still have access. Download reports, or copy open actions and notes, before the trial ends.
  2. Sign in with Google or email. Only the facilitator needs to; a team is set up for you on the way in.
  3. Keep your usual formats. Classics such as Start Stop Continue, the Starfish or KPT are among the ready templates. A template you customized in TeamRetro can be rebuilt as a custom template with the same columns.
  4. Skip the verification step. With the room open to "Anyone", the default for new teams, people join with a name, and nobody needs an email address. Restrict the room if you want only signed-in people or team members.
  5. Send the room link to the team chat a few minutes before the meeting.
  6. Re-enter open actions. Add the ones still open in TeamRetro as action items during the first retro, with owners and due dates. From then on, reminders and the review at the start of each retro keep track of them.

If your team used TeamRetro's check-ins, open with an icebreaker and the mood survey instead: together they get everyone talking and show how the team feels. The built-in questions are listed on the icebreaker questions page.

FAQ

What happens to my TeamRetro data after the trial?

According to TeamRetro, retrospectives and actions are no longer accessible without a paid plan, and they are kept for a limited period in case you come back. Save anything you need before the trial ends.

Does ProstoRetro stop working after 30 days?

No. Nothing expires: your team keeps its retros and can hold new ones for as long as it likes, with up to 100 people in a room.

Do participants need an account or an email?

Neither, in a room open to "Anyone", which is how new teams start: people join by typing a name, until the retro is completed. The facilitator is the only one who signs in, with Google or email.

Does ProstoRetro have health checks or integrations like TeamRetro?

Neither. Each retro can include a mood survey, with its history on the team page, but there are no health checks, maturity models or cross-team analytics, and no integrations, API or export. For a walkthrough of a session, read how to run a great retro.
